Schools: Reed College, Pacific University. High school: Catlin Gabel. Living arrangements: In the country, south of Oregon City. By the way, Oregon City is one of the universe's special weird places. I'll post links, but web sites don't convey the gritty, mealy, ghostly atmosphere. Pets: Obligatory writer cats: three (but I'm not a collector). Man's best friend: two, Dashiell and Didi. Children: two, pictured on the right. We used to have a parakeet but it died, merciful heavens. It was about 30 years old. Me: My daughter refers to me as "taco salad." See the reference in the header? That's me. Taco salad. Healthy, spicy, indulgent and all mixed up. I've been married, now I'm not. I'll post a picture soon, if I can find one that doesn't show me as the blonde I was post-divorce. Scary. Look for: The Red Tent, a short story coming out in Spinetingler Magazine this summer. These guys are really nice! My editor responded in less than 24 hours. Is that nice, or what?

I'm blogging my novel, Madison, After. Go here to see it. Start with the very first entry at the bottom of the nav bar. Why am I blogging my novel? I wrote this novel in a heat wave. I love it. I can't let it go. I want to go back to it every week and present it like a new toy. Madison, After is post (very post) apocalyptic. Dystopian. But it's also rooted in a romance tradition--in fact I was going for the feel of a particular Victoria Holt novel I used to love. I talk about it a little more on the blog. I started writing Madison for the reader I was at fourteen but ended up writing it for the person I am now. Did I mention I wrote it in a white hot, sweaty heat? What a summer. Does blogging the novel preclude Madison from ever seeing the light of day as a published cardboard and paper unit available in your local feed store? Good question. I really hope it finds a little wire rack of its own, next to other crazy-fun girl sci-fi novels. But until that time, Madison is my personal toy, and her world is my playground. But I'll share. From 2008. I actually made money off these. Rose & Thorn, Summer 2008. Carter's Third Funeral. http://www.theroseandthornezine.com/Summer08/Funeral.html Clonepod, May 12, 2008. The Cat, the Desert and Lucky .003. http://www.clonepod.org/2008/05/12/ep10-the-catthe-desert-and-lucky-003-by-kassandra-kelly/ The Future Fire, Issue 2008.11. Lucky .003. Cover image is very cool! http://futurefire.net/2008.11/fiction/lucky003.html Reflection's Edge, July 2008. Nine- or Ten-Foot Angels. http://www.reflectionsedge.com/archives/july2008/notfa_kk.html And this list doesn't include the 'zines who bought stories and immediately died, earning me the coveted title of "Magazine Murderer." I swear, I wasn't the one who did Great Western. I haven't managed to resell my Idaho western family saga short story yet. I really wanted GW to succeed.
